Iolani alum Duke Hashimoto of Kapolei became only the second player from Hawai'i to be drafted by a Major League Soccer team.

Hashimoto, a 5-foot-7, 150-pound forward/midfielder who played four years at Southern Methodist University, was selected 38th overall by the Columbus Crew in today's MLS SuperDraft. He was the second pick in the fourth round.

The only other Hawai'i player to be drafted by MLS is Hale'iwa native Brian Ching. He was chosen by the Los Angeles Galaxy in the 2001 SuperDraft as the 16th overall pick.

Ching plays for Houston, formerly the San Jose Earthquakes.

Last season, Hashimoto was named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year and named to All-American second teams by the NSCAA and SoccerTimes.com. He was also a College Soccer News All-America third team pick.
