Advertiser Staff

Mirenda Swearengin had 12 points, 12 rebounds and nine assists as Fresno State trounced Hawai'i, 77-52, yesterday in a Western Athletic Conference women's basketball game at Fresno, Calif.

A crowd of 3,124 saw the Bulldogs (13-4 overall, 5-0 WAC) win their sixth in a row while handing the Rainbow Wahine (10-5, 1-3) their third straight loss.

Amy Parrish added 14 points for Fresno State, which used an aggressive pressure defense to force 26 turnovers that resulted in numerous fast-break opportunities.

The Bulldogs surged to a 41-22 halftime lead and built their advantage to as many as 32 points in the second half.

The Rainbows shot 31.8 percent (21 of 66) from the field, including 0 for 15 from 3-point range, for a season-low in points. It was the first time in four years — a span of 113 games — that Hawai'i failed to make a 3-pointer.

Alofa Toiaivao was the lone Rainbow Wahine in double figures with a season-high 17 points to go with eight rebounds.
