Three UH women's basketball players suspended

Three University of Hawai'i women's basketball players have been suspended indefinitely due to violation of team policy following UH's loss at Fresno State on Saturday, head coach Jim Bolla announced today in a statement.

Sophomore guard Saundra Cariaga, junior forward Pam Tambini and junior center Alofa Toiaivao have been sent home to Honolulu and will not play in Hawai'i's game tonight at Boise State, the statement said.

Toiaivao has appeared in 11 games with six starts and has been the team's leading scorer (13.5 points per game) and rebounder (8.5 rebounds per game) in four WAC games. The native of Sandy, Utah, scored a season-high 17 points in UH's last game at Fresno State. Tambini has started 14 of 15 games this season and is averaging 9.1 ppg and 6.2 rpg. Cariaga has appeared in nine games off the bench and is averaging 2.4 ppg and 1.6 rpg.

UH (10-5, 1-3 WAC) looks to snap a season-long three-game losing streak when they face Boise State (10-7, 2-3) in a WAC matchup tonight at 4 p.m. Hawai'i time. The Rainbow Wahine then return Honolulu for a pair of home games against Utah State Thursday and Nevada Saturday.
