Soggy weather delays H-1 closures for widening work

Advertiser staff

The state Department of Transportation has rescheduled this week's full closure of the H-1 Freeway between Halawa and Pearl City until next month because of weather forecast for rainy conditions that could continue through the week.

Weather permitting, crews will close the H-1 in both directions between the Halawa and Pearl City interchanges from 9:30 p.m. Feb. 6 to 4 a.m. Feb. 7. The freeway's westbound lanes will be closed in the same area from 9:30 p.m. Feb. 7 to 4 a.m. on Feb. 8.

The closures are needed for installation of expansion joints and new freeway signs related to the H-1 widening project. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes such as Kamehameha Highway or Moanalua Road through 'Aiea and Pearl City.

Up-to-date information on construction schedules and lane closures tied to H-1 widening work are posted on the DOT's hotline, 587-6316 and Web site at www.h1widening.com.
