David M. Baldaino, 37, who has a 1989 third-degree sexual assault conviction on Kaua'i, also pleaded guilty to not registering as a sex offender.
As part of a plea agreement, Baldaino will be sentenced to a maximum 30-year prison term. He could have faced a potential life term with parole if he was convicted of all charges.
Circuit Judge Richard Perkins scheduled sentencing for June 7. Baldaino remains in custody unable to post $500,000 bail.
City Deputy Prosecutor Lori Wada said the agreement is a "fair resolution."
She said the victim is "very satisfied" with the outcome.
"She's happy to put this behind her," Wada said.
The rape was followed by another sexual assault of a 72-year-old Kaimuki woman three days later, prompting fears of a serial rapist preying on the elderly in the community.
Wada said Baldaino is not linked to the other attack and the assailant in that case is still free.
Deputy Public Defender Debra Loy, Baldaino's lawyer, declined to comment.
