A man and a woman were arrested at an 'Aiea apartment complex yesterday afternoon as suspects in a shooting on Dec. 27 near the Waimalu Safeway supermarket.Police received information that the suspects, both 34, were hiding in an apartment at 98-1038 Moanalua Road. Members of the Police Department's Specialized Services Division were sent to the apartment building along with hostage negotiators.
Both suspects surrendered without incident and were arrested about 5 p.m., but no weapon was recovered.
The woman was arrested for suspicion of hindering prosecution for allegedly harboring the man. She was also arrested for suspicion of third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia based on items found on her when she was arrested, police said.
In addition, both suspects were arrested for suspicion of four counts of attempted murder stemming from the Dec. 27 shooting incident in which a 35-year-old man told police a man fired a shot at him as he sat in his car along with three girls, ages 7, 10 and 12.
The man said he was following his ex-girlfriend's car around the Pearl City area and had pulled up next to it in the supermarket parking lot.
At that point, the male passenger in the ex-girlfriend's car got out, took a handgun out of his waistband and fired a shot at his car, the man told police.
The police interviewed the ex-girlfriend at the scene but the male passenger had already left. The former girlfriend told police she fired the shot at the vehicle. She was initially arrested for suspicion of attempted murder on Dec. 27 but was later released without charges.
When she was arrested yesterday, the ex-girlfriend was booked for investigation of four counts of attempted murder. Police could not immediately say if or how the three girls in the car at the time of the shooting were related to the man driving the car or the ex-girlfriend.
