HPU cheerleading stunt team wins nationals

Hawai'i Pacific's all-girl stunt team captured the national title at the Universal Cheerleaders Association College Cheerleading Championships Jan. 13 in Orlando, Fla.

The team is made up of Amber Lefler, Bridget Hall, Nicole Latham and Lauren Muckleroy.

The partner stunt group of Michael Brewster and Chelsea Ross were eighth in their division.

HPU's all-girl stunt team won the 2005 National Cheerleaders Association national title. The small coed cheer team and the HPU mascot, Sharky the Sea Warrior, also won NCAA titles in 2005. Hunting classes offered

Hunter education classes are being offered by the Hawai'i Department of Land & Natural Resources.

The free classes, which will cover firearms and archery safety, survival and first-aid, wildlife identification, and rules and regulations will be Feb. 10 and 11.

Classes will be at 1130 N. Nimitz Highway, A—212A.

The Feb. 10 class will run from 5:45 p.m. to 10. The Feb. 11 class will run from 7:45 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Classes are open to anyone 10 years and older.

COAKLEY SWIMS TO WIN

Daniel Coakley, of North Kohala, finished first in a 50-meter freestyle swimming exhibition during the Manila Youth Games for high school students in the Philippines in October.

Coakley, part of a Fil-American International team invited to the games, finished in 24 seconds. Ronald Guiriba of the Philippines was second in 24.21.
