No major brush fires from fireworks

Advertiser staff

There were no major brush fires caused by Fourth of July fireworks reported as late this afternoon, the Honolulu Fire Department said.

Fire Capt. Kenison Tejada said that as of 5:45 p.m., there were 33 brush fires reported during the day, 17 of which were fireworks-related. There were also 11 rubbish fires and two dumpster fires although it was not clear if they were tied to the setting of fireworks.

"Not too bad so far," Tejada said. "Nothing major yet, but the night is young."
