Ching scores eighth goal of season

Advertiser News Services

Eddie Gaven scored on a penalty kick in the 66th minute to give the Columbus Crew a 1-1 tie with the Houston Dynamo last night in Houston.

It was the fourth straight tie for Columbus (4-6-6) and the third straight for Houston (3-6-3).

The Dynamo took the lead in the fifth minute when forward Brian Ching, a Kamehameha Schools alum from Hawai'i, scored on a header from 4 yards out on a cross from Brian Mullan. It was Ching's eighth goal of the season and his first in three games since returning from the U.S. national team at the World Cup in Germany.

Ching leads the Dynamo in scoring despite missing a month with the national team.
