Woman killed on Big Island after getting out of truck

HILO, Hawai'i — A 24-year-old Pahoa woman died Sunday after being hit by a car on Route 130 during an argument with her boyfriend, police said.

Francene Kuamoo was arguing with her boyfriend in a pickup truck at around 8:50 p.m. when she got out of the vehicle and was struck in the middle of the road by a Kea'au-bound 2006 Toyota sedan driven by a 68-year-old Pahoa man, police said.

She was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m. at Hilo Medical Center.

There have been 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year, compared with 16 a year ago.
