The July 7, 1897, Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports on an appeal filed by Queen Lili'uokalani in Washington protesting the treaty annexing Hawai'i to the United States.

1898: President McKinley signs the treaty annexing Hawai'i to the United States.

1900: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports that the post office department has established the proposed boundaries for free mail delivery service in Honolulu.

1901: The cornerstone is laid for the new Catholic chapel in Waikiki.

1945: The territory's residents celebrate their first curfew-free evening since Dec. 7, 1941.
