Car hits, kills Pahoa woman

HILO, Hawai'i — A 24-year-old Pahoa woman died Sunday after being hit by a car on Route 130.
Francene Kuamoo was arguing with her boyfriend in a pickup truck about 8:50 p.m. when she got out of the vehicle and was hit in the middle of the road by a Kea'au-bound 2006 Toyota sedan driven by a 68-year-old Pahoa man, police said.
Kuamoo was pronounced dead at 10:35 p.m. at Hilo Medical Center. Speed and alcohol were not factors, police said.
There have been 18 traffic fatalities on the Big Island this year, compared with 16 a year ago.
FORGERY ATTEMPT FAILS AT WAL-MART
A 43-year-old Mo'ili'ili man was arrested Wednesday after he allegedly tried to cash several forged money orders at the Wal-Mart store on Ke'eaumoku Street.
Police were called to the store about 3 p.m. and arrested the man on suspicion of five counts of second-degree forgery.
