Hawai'i gymnasts off to national competitions

A record number of gymnasts from Hawai'i will be competing in their respective national competitions in Chicago, beginning today.
There will be 27 athletes competing for Hawai'i. Last year, a then-record 13 gymnasts competed at the national level.
The elite and level 10 athletes will compete in the U.S. Championships, which begins today and ends Sunday. The level 5 through 9 athletes are competing in the Junior Olympics National Championships, which runs Monday through Friday.
Both competitions will be at the Schaumburg Convention Center.
Following are the athletes with their age, school, hometown and the competition events and ability levels.
Matt Moniz (19, Leeward Community College, 'Aiea), double mini trampoline, senior elite.
Kira Vercruyssen (19, Honolulu Community College, Kaimuki), individual trampoline level 10, double mini trampoline, level 10.
