Augie T surfaces on Maui, Kaua'i radio, live from O'ahu

Augie T (for Tulba), the Na Hoku Hanohano Award-winning comedian who was a morning mainstay on Clear Channel's KDNN Island 98.5 FM, has surfaced on Maui and Kaua'i radio stations.

Though aired on Neighbor Islands, his show originates from Augie's 'Ewa Beach home.

"It's a weird situation," he said. "I didn't renew my contract with Clear Channel (after six years with the organization), and I have a six-month no-compete clause." That means he can't sign with a Honolulu station until the clause expires.

He's broadcasting on Visionary Related Entertainment's KNUQ Q-103 FM in Maui (also heard on the Big Island) from 6 to 10 a.m. weekdays and from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekends. On Visionary's Kaua'i station The Surf (95.9 and 103.9 FM), he has an afternoon show.

"I work from home in my studio, but I also can take the show on the road," Augie said, thanks to technology that lets him broadcast from any part of the country as he pursues his stand-up comedy career.

Two weeks ago, he broadcast from Los Angeles; his radio show has also originated from Boston. He can communicate with listeners via a 1-866 phone-in number.

Augie leaves for L.A. this week to appear in "Horsepower," an indie film by Joel Moffett, who is on the staff of the University of Hawai'i's Academy for Creative Media. And he's gearing up for a concert Aug. 15 at Farrington High School, his alma mater, which will be filmed for DVD.
