Hawaiian Air carrying more

Hawaiian Airlines said its passenger traffic rose 7 percent in June despite new competition on interisland routes.

The state's largest airline said it served 536,640 passengers last month, up from June 2005's 501,471.

Also, 575.5 million revenue passenger miles were recorded by Hawaiian in June, a 1.1 percent rise from the previous June. Available seat miles were 661.4 million, a 0.2 percent increase from June 2005.

Last month, startup airline go! began flying to the Neighbor Islands in direct competition with Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines.


CRIMES AGAINST TOURISTS A TOPIC

The Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii will host a one-day conference July 28 to raise awareness about crimes against visitors and discuss solutions.

The "Sharing Aloha Visitor Crime Awareness Conference" at the Hawai'i Convention Center will include national and local travel safety experts, tourism leaders and law-enforcement officials. The conference fee is $75, or $35 for students.

BOEING OUTPACES AIRBUS ON ORDERS

CHICAGO — Boeing Co. has a commanding lead over Airbus SAS so far this year in the race for new airplane orders, building on sales momentum that began last year as well as capitalizing on disarray at its European rival.

Boeing's commercial orders in the first six months of the year totaled 480 planes, compared with 117 reported by Airbus yesterday. Chicago-based Boeing's biggest known customer is Southwest Airlines, which has ordered 81 single-aisle 737s.


KRAFT SCORES A COOKIE COUP

NORTHFIELD, Ill. — Kraft Foods Inc., the world's second-largest food company behind Nestle SA, said it will pay about $1.07 billion to acquire the Spanish and Portuguese units of United Biscuits in a move to broaden its global strength in cookie sales.

The company also will reclaim the rights to all Nabisco trademarks, including Oreo and Ritz, in the European Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Africa as part of the transaction.
