1918: Every news dealer in Honolulu has agreed to stop selling William Randolph Hearst's publications at the request of the Vigilance Corps, which said Hearst publications were disloyal and pro-German.
1947: Seven thousand pineapple workers go out on strike.
1953: Six of the Hawaii 7 are released from the city-county jail after an 87-year-old sculptor and three other Honolulans post a total of $90,000 in personal surety bonds. The seventh member of the group, Jack Hall, had posted a $15,000 personal bond shortly after sentencing.
1977: Aloha Hotel residents in Chinatown and their supporters form a human chain to barricade the entrance to the dilapidated building, preventing a sheriff's deputy from entering and carrying out court-ordered evictions.
1993: President Clinton caps the first day of his Hawai'i visit with a speech on the beach in Waikiki in which he promises to address Native Hawaiian concerns and praises Hawai'i's healthcare system.
