Police Beat: Man reports bus stop hammer assault

Police are investigating a complaint filed by a 58-year-old man who said he was waiting at a bus stop in Kalihi about 6:30 p.m. yesterday when a 21-year-old man hit him in the head with the hammer.

The man who filed the complaint was taken to The Queen's Medical Center where he was treated for minor head injuries, police said.

They classified the incident as a case of second-degree assault.

Man arrested in cell-phone grab incident

Police arrested a 22-year-old man in Waikiki last night after he allegedly tried take a cellular phone from a 24-year-old man.

The older man told police he was walking through a park and talking on his cell phone, when the younger man approached from behind, placed him in a choke hold and attempted to take the phone away.

Police said the older man told them he was able to break free, run to a nearby business and ask for help.

The younger man was arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery.
