Prime meat moseys from country to town

 •  Classic crab diversified

Advertiser Staff

North Shore Cattle Co. is fast becoming synonymous with great hamburgers in this town, but that's not all you can do with this range-fed beef from O'ahu's North Shore — chef Alan Wong and his staff can prove it. Wong, long a North Shore Cattle Co. customer and a proponent of buying local, is launching a series of promotions to celebrate Island food producers with "You Like Beef — A Sunday Brunch" from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 30 that will feature North Shore Cattle Co. and its owner, former state veterinarian Dr. Cal "Doc" Lum.

On the menu: prime rib, mini burgers, shabu shabu beef salad, beef tartare of tenderloin, sopa de albondigas, paniolo rough-cut chili and meatball-stuffed peppers. Cost for the event, which will be held at Wong's Pineapple Room restaurant at Macy's, is $42. It's a "we-plate, you-plate" event — entrees are ordered, other dishes are buffet. Reservations: 945-6573.

HAVE SOME WINE

TAKE A TASTE OF FUTURE CHINATOWN WINE BAR

Lisa Gmur, wine specialist for Grand Crew Wine Merchants and an Advertiser beverages columnist, will offer a sneak preview of the wine list for Du Vin ("some wine"), an as-yet-unopened wine bar set to launch in a couple of months on Nu'uanu Avenue in Chinatown. Seven wines will be sampled at the tasting, 6 p.m. Tuesday at Du Vin's neighbor restaurant, Indigo, including whites and reds from Italy, California, France, South Africa and Spain.

The event is part of the ongoing Wrath of Grapes Indigo Wine Club. Cost is $20 per person and includes light pupu by chef Glenn Chu. Seating is limited to 28 people. Call 521-2900.
