Larson's vision

Advertiser Staff

San Francisco Chronicle photojournalist Frederic Larson shares his vision at 7 tonight at the University of Hawai'i-Manoa's Krauss Hall, Yukiyoshi Room. He'll show images from his documentary projects on the San Francisco Tenderloin, Romania after the revolution and post-tsunami Sri Lanka. The room is small and the event is free, so get there early. 956-8246.

OCEAN ADVENTURE

COUSTEAU'S FILM TO SCREEN

Now that the Northwestern Hawaiian Islands are a national monument, maybe we should learn more about them. The Hanauma Bay Education Program will screen Part 1 of Jean-Michel Cousteau's documentary "Voyage to Kure," about his exploration of the remote isles, at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow. President Bush said the PBS production, which debuted on TV in April, influenced his landmark decision to protect this expanse of ocean. Free. 397-5840.

FINAL WORD

"... the surfing world of the North Shore is ... just so male: It's purely about the power of your body ... all that testosterone can be scary. I'm only connected because I used those guys in a movie."

Brian Grazer | the "Blue Crush" producer, in Travel + Leisure magazine
