Business briefs: Honolulu airport to offer valet service

Advertiser Staff and News Services

The state Transportation Department is launching a pilot project to gauge the demand for valet parking at Honolulu International Airport's interisland terminal.

Starting Saturday, interisland travelers can valet their cars for $20 a day. That's double the cost of self-parking in the airport garage.

Some travelers said they thought $20 was too expensive, while others said they look forward to having another option, especially when they're running late.

The airport valet service will be operated seven days a week from 5 a.m. until the last flight at night. Ampco System Parking will use existing spaces instead of creating its own stalls for the valet service.

Kaua'i gets top ranking by Travel + Leisure magazine

Kaua'i has been ranked as the No. 1 island in Hawai'i by readers of Travel + Leisure in the category of World's Best Islands.

Travel + Leisure magazine surveyed its readership during the first quarter of 2006 in determining the results for its World's Best Islands. Respondents judged the islands based on five characteristics: natural attractions; activities/sights; restaurants/food; people; and value.

Kaua'i ranked second among the overall listing of World's Best Islands, trailing only Bali. The remaining top ten islands were, in order, Maui; Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia; Mount Desert Island, Maine; Tasmania; Hawaii's Big Island; Galapagos Islands; Santorini; and Phuket, Thailand.
