Hawai'i's cities have the highest percentage of fuel efficient vehicles in the nation, according to a study released yesterday.

Motorists in Kapa'a on the island of Kaua'i were more likely to drive fuel-efficient cars than anywhere else in the United States, according to MapInfo Corp.

The Kahului-Wailuku area on Maui was No. 2, followed by Hilo and Honolulu. MapInfo said with the nation's highest gas prices, it's no surprise the top four cities were in Hawai'i.

KAUA'I WORLD'S SECOND-BEST ISLAND

Kaua'i has been ranked as the No. 1 island in Hawai'i by readers of Travel + Leisure in the category of World's Best Islands.

Readers judged the islands based on natural attractions; activities/sights; restaurants/ food; people; and value.

Kaua'i ranked second overall in the listing of World's Best Islands, trailing only Bali. Maui was No. 3, the Big Island No. 7.
