The candidates hoping to fill U.S. Rep. Ed Case's seat have until 6 p.m. today (Hawai'i time) to electronically submit their campaign finance reports to the Federal Election Commission, but some candidates were able to offer their numbers yesterday.

Among the 2nd Congressional District Democrat candidates who had filed by yesterday afternoon, state Rep. Brian Schatz raised the most — $145,614 — during the quarter ending June 30, followed by former Lt. Gov. Mazie Hirono at $139,259 and state Sen. Colleen Hanabusa at $122,377.

However, Hirono's total fundraising this election cycle surpassed both Schatz's and Hanabusa's by more than $200,000, with $438,714 collected since the beginning of the election cycle, compared to $233,077 for Hanabusa and $221,795 for Schatz.

Republican candidate Quentin Kawananakoa reported raising $74,665 during the period and lent his campaign an additional $250,000. Republican Bob Hogue said he had raised approximately $30,000.

Among the remaining Democratic candidates, state Sen. Clayton Hee reported raising $66,000. Others could offer only estimates yesterday: state Sen. Gary Hooser said his fundraising total was up to $180,000, compared to $97,703 reported in April; former state Sen. Matt Matsunaga said he had raised about $100,000; and state Sen. Ron Menor said he had raised $70,000, which he planned to supplement with a $100,000 loan before the end of the month.
