The Zoo vaudeville attracted a large crowd at its opening in Kaimuki, the July 16, 1905, Advertiser reported.

1922: Four people are killed and two are injured when an Oahu Railway & Land train derails at Waikakalaua gulch, piling up 28 cars loaded with pineapples.

1950: The first known casualty of the Korean War from Hawai'i is killed north of Taejon. Pfc. Jack C. Arakawa, 29, had fought with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team in World War II.

1979: Circuit Judge Arthur Fong orders Hawai'i police officers, who walked off the job two days earlier, back to work.
