Tantalus murder suspect pleads not guilty

By KEN KOBAYASHI

A 23-year-old man pleaded not guilty this morning to charges of murdering three people at Tantalus and a home invasion robbery the night of July 6.

Adam Mau-Goffredo did not say anything at the hearing before Circuit Judge Derrick Chan, but Mau-Goffredo's lawyer Brook Hart said he was entering the not guilty plea on behalf of his client.

Chan scheduled the trial for the week of Sept. 18 before Circuit Judge Dexter Del Rosario.

Chan also approve a request by city Prosecutor Peter Carlisle to continue holding Mau-Goffredo without bail.

Mau-Goffredo was initially held on $25 million bail, but Chan last week approved a no-bail order after Carlisle said it appeared the three people were murdered execution style with shots to their head.

Hart did not oppose today's no bail request for his client, who is being held at the O'ahu Community Correctional Center.

Mau-Goffredo, who has been diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, is charged with first-degree and second-degree murder, armed robbery, theft, burglary and firearm charges.

He is accused of shooting taxi driver Manh Nguyen and Jason and Colleen Takamori, a Kapahulu couple, at Tantalus and the home invasion robbery of three people at a Round Top Drive home before he was arrested later that night.
