No foul play in Maui man's death

WAILUKU, Maui —An autopsy performed today on a 38-year-old man whose body was found floating in the ocean off Pa'ia did not indicate foul play, although the cause of death has yet to be determined, police said.

Matthew Atwood of Lahaina was reported missing by his wife around 7:35 p.m. yesterday, said Lt. Glenn Cuomo of the Maui Police Department. His nude body was spotted at about 2:15 p.m. yesterday by a group of teenage girls at a cove north of Baldwin Beach Park that is known for nude sunbathing. Cuomo said Atwood's car was parked nearby.

He was a manager at the Maui Muscle Sports Club fitness center and gym in Kahana.

Cuomo said detectives are awaiting test results from the autopsy to tell them how the man died.
