Police Beat: Would-be robber captured by bystanders

Bystanders thwarted a 47-year-old man's attempt to allegedly rob a service station yesterday on Sand Island Access Road, police said. The man entered the service station carrying an unknown large metal object and demanded money from the 19-year-old clerk, police reported. The robber grabbed the entire cash register and attempted to run out the store when witnesses tackled him and held him until police arrived, police said. The man was arrested on suspicion of first degree robbery.

Punch after traffic incident leads to arrest

Police arrested a 21-year-old man last night for allegedly punching a 26-year-old man in the face during a traffic incident on Kane'ohe Bay Drive, police said. The man got out of his car, walked over to the older man, who was still sitting in his car, and struck him, police said. Police arrested the man on suspicion of unlawful entry of a motorized vehicle.

Teens caught stealing beer from store

Two teens, ages 14 and 13, allegedly broke into a supermarket in Wai'anae and stole alcohol yesterday morning, police said. The teens had attempted to run after they were spotted in the area with the beer, police said. They were caught by police and arrested on suspicion of burglary in the second degree, police said.

Man, 32, accused of repeated sexual assaults of girl, 13

Police arrested a 33-year-old man yesterday on suspicion of sexually assaulting a 13-year-old girl several times over a four-month period. The girl told police the man befriended her and and after gaining her trust, drove her to his home in Kane'ohe, where he sexually assaulted her in his bedroom, police said.

The alleged sexual assaults continued until the relationship ended, police said. Police are holding the man on suspicion of sexual assault in the first degree.

Man caught 'sleeping' with stolen jewelry

A 19-year-old man who was pretending to be asleep in his car was arrested in Kailua today for allegedly stealing a box of jewelry from a nearby car.

Around 4 a.m., a 47-year-old woman reported to police that a jewelry box containing miscellaneous jewelry was stolen from her car.

Police checked the area and found the man in his car with the jewelry box in plain sight in the back seat, they said. The woman identified the box. Police arrested the man on suspicion of detaining stolen property in the second degree.
