1920: Nu'uanu Stream has become a "veritable cesspool" running through Honolulu, The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports. The paper said a modern sewage system is needed for Honolulu.
1934: Arthur McCormack is appointed superintendent of the Hawaiian Humane Society animal home. He previously was superintendent of the territory's animal quarantine station.
1956: The Advertiser reports a shopping center is planned for the 50-acre area bounded by Ala Moana, Pi'ikoi and Kona streets and Atkinson Drive.
1969: Astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin are the first to walk on the moon.
