Cyd Okino and Jaclyn Hilea won gross division honors Sunday at the ESPN National Golf Challenge Qualifier at Turtle Bay's Arnold Palmer Course.

Okino, 12, and Hilea, 18, shot a better ball 6-under 66 to claim one of the three spots in the regional finals. Sam Rodriguez III and Haku Maluenda were second at 69 and Sergio Meneses and Abel Soares III were third at 70. All three teams advance to the regional finals, Aug. 27 at Turtle Bay.

In the net division, Clifford Nishikawa and Henry Fujita shot a 61 to win and advance to regionals. Also advancing were William Paik and Dennis Lee (62) and Gerald Sur and Wendell Pacada (66).

KAUA'I COURSES OFFER SPECIALS FOR JUNIORS

Three Kaua'i courses have special junior promotions this summer:

At Puakea, for every paying adult, one junior golfer (age 7 to 18) rides or plays for free on weekdays. The special is valid through August. For the remainder of the year and on weekends in the summer, junior golfers pay $1 a hole. Junior clinics are also offered several afternoons a week.

At Po'ipu Bay, golfers 17 and under can play for half off the adult rate anytime. After 4 p.m., juniors are free if walking the course with an accompanying adult, who pays $10.

Through August at Kaua'i Lagoons Golf Club, juniors ages 6 to 17 are half off, or $40 for Kiele and $25 for Mokihana. Junior rental clubs are free. Juniors must be accompanied by at least one paying adult per group. Taxes not included.
