Two very different fundraisers are happening this weekend:

  • A special performance of the drama "Tea" begins at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Kumu Kahua Theater. It's a benefit for the UH Lab School, which was damaged by a fire in June.

Written by Velina Hasu Houston, "Tea" is the story of four World War II Japanese war brides, who meet at the home of another war bride who committed suicide, and their lives in America.

Tickets are $50, part of which is tax deductible. A reception with the cast and director Kati Kuroda follows the performance. 554-5450.

  • Pipeline Cafe will host a benefit for the family of cab driver Manh Nguyen, who was shot to death this month at Tantalus. Tickets are $10 for the all-ages event, 5 to 10 p.m. tomorrow.

Among the bands performing: Hot Rain, Natural Soul, Lalea, All Natro, Pegasis and Tony Gamble. There'll also be prizes and food. 479-6004.
