Kai scores in U.S. women's soccer victory

Hawai'i's Natasha Kai scored a goal in the 74th minute to help the United States women's national soccer team to a 5-0 victory over Ireland at Torero Stadium in San Diego on Sunday.

Kai, a Kahuku High and University of Hawai'i alum, scored the United States' fourth goal when her shot from 12 yards out went into the lower left corner. It was her fourth goal in seven career appearances with the national team.

In Kai's scoring play, Aly Wagner turned with the ball just over the midfield line and passed behind the Ireland defense on the right side. Kai settled the ball on the run and was in alone on Ireland goalie Emma Byrne before slotting her shot.

U.S. defender Cat Whitehill scored twice and forwards Heather O'Reilly and Abby Wambach added goals.?The United States is 8-0-3 this year and plays Canada at SAS Soccer Park in Cary, N.C., next Sunday.
