Hawai'i hallyu fans have had the chance to see several Korean celebrity-studded events in the past year. The star parade started with Lee Byung Hun attending the Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival last October. Fashion designer Andre Kim flew in three Korean stars to model in his fashion show in February. More recently, Phoenix, a Korea celebrity basketball team, held a charity event, and a group of supporting actors held a golf and dinner program.

And there's more to come. Even though getting top stars to appear in Hawai'i is a challenge as demand for them in Asia continues to grow (along with their appearance fees), future events are in the pipeline.

In October, the 26th Louis Vuitton Hawaii International Film Festival will feature a K-fest and possibly a mega hallyu star.

Several concerts are being planned as well. Park Yong Ha has a show in the works. Known for playing the character Kim Sang-hyuk in the Korean drama "Winter Sonata," Park is also an accomplished singer in three languages and is well-known for his singing — he sang the theme song to the popular SBS drama "All In" starring Lee Byung Hun.

With the success of a concert last summer at Japan's famed Budokan venue, Hawai'i is a logical next step.

I had the pleasure of meeting Park Yong Ha several years ago when he vacationed in Hawai'i. When I met him, he had already got some golf time in and was darker than me. Park was vacationing with Ahn Jae Hyung, CEO of Yeon Young Entertainment Group, which represents Park. Both men have an affinity for Hawai'i and want to visit as much as possible, but with megastar status, scheduling is a challenge.

Park's albums include "Dear Love," "I Love You So Much" and "Just for Yesterday." Other K-dramas he has starred in: "Loving You," "Sunflower," "Snowflakes," "More Than Love" and "If It Snows at Christmas." He also has been on the big screen in films such as "Although It Is Hateful Again" and "Summer Story."

Knowing the style of Park and his management team, the proposed show won't be a scaled-down concert in a ballroom. They are investigating large venues to accommodate fans from Asia and Hawai'i.

KBFD will take part in the events as the local partner or assisting in some capacity, so stay tuned to this column as your source for hallyu information.
