  • GLENN MIYATAKI has resigned as president of the Japan-America Institute of Management Science, a post-graduate program dedicated to the cross-cultural education and training of future business leaders from the Asia-Pacific region. A committee, headed by former University of Hawai'i president Fujio Matsuda, has been appointed to find Miyataki's successor.

  • WARREN MARTINEZ has been named controller of the 880-acre Turtle Bay Resort, operated by Benchmark Hospitality International. Martinez is a former assistant controller at The Fairmont Kea Lani Maui and has also worked at the Irvine Marriott Hotel in California. Martinez replaces MALGORZATA BARDZIK-COX, who has transferred to the North Maple Inn in New Jersey, another Benchmark-managed property. Also, HECTOR J . MORALES JR. has been named executive chef at Turtle Bay, overseeing the resort kitchens as well as the Palm Terrace, Hang Ten Grill and 21 Degrees North restaurants.

  • JAMES STARSHAK, a partner at the law firm of Carlsmith Ball LLP, has been named to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Hawaii Foodbank. Starshak is a director of the Ho'o'onipa'a No Hana Foundation, dedicated to the preservation of Hawaiian culture and sacred sites in Hana, Maui.

  • Certified public accountant RACHEL FUKUMOTO has been named chief financial officer and vice president for administrative services for TransPacific Hawaii College, formerly Kansai Gaidai Hawaii College. She will oversee all administrative services and financial issues for the college, including human resources, employee benefits and student records. TransPacific Hawaii College provides international students with the opportunity to earn an American associate of arts degree that prepares them for transfer to four-year colleges and universities.

  • JON K. MATSUOKA, dean of the University of Hawai'i-Manoa School of Social Work, has been elected to a three-year term on the board of directors of the Council on Social Work Education. The council, which has more than 3,000 members, is the accrediting agency for social work in education in the United States.

  • Hard Rock International has named KENDRA MURRAY senior sales and marketing manager, overseeing all sales and marketing activities, not only for the three Hard Rock Cafes in Hawai'i, but assisting with future Hard Rock International projects and developments in Hawai'i. NICOLE NOYES has been named sales and marketing manager at the Hard Rock Cafe in Kona, and NATALIE CAPITANO has been named sales and marketing manager at the Hard Rock Cafe on Maui. Also, VICTOR YEUNG has been named sales manager at Hard Rock Cafe in Honolulu.
