Two teens killed, two hospitalized in car crash

An 18-year-old girl and 16-year-old boy were killed last night when the the speeding car they were riding in drove off the end of the road, went airborne and slammed into a drainage ditch on the grounds of the former Barbers Point Naval Air Station, now known as Kalaeloa.

Police vehicular homicide investigators said the accident occurred about 11 p.m. where Roosevelt Avenue comes to an end about a tenth of a mile south of Boxer Avenue.

The girl who died was seated in the front right passenger seat prior to the crash while the boy who was killed had been riding in right rear passenger seat, police said. Both were declared dead at the scene.

The 19-year-old man who was driving the 1993 Nissan 240 was taken to The Queen's Medical Center in critical condition and a third passenger, a 14-year-old boy riding in the in the left rear seat, was taken to Queen's in serious condition, police said.

The 2006 traffic death toll on O'ahu now stands at 56 compared to 50 at the same time last year.
