Police Beat: Fistful of $100 bills leads to forgery arrest

Advertiser Staff

Police arrested a 43-year-old man in Kalihi yesterday after finding him asleep in a car, clutching a fistful of what appeared to be bogus $100 bills.

A patrol officer spotted a parked car about 10:20 a.m. with the driver slumped over to one side, police said. Since there was damage to the front of the car, the patrol officer stopped to check whether the driver needed help.

In addition to the money, the officer noted that the man was holding a pair of scissors and strips of paper that appeared to have been trimmed from the bills. The officer then woke up the man and ordered him out of the car. A glass "ice" pipe allegedly fell out of the man's waistband as he got out of the vehicle.

He was then arrested for suspicion of first-degree forgery, third-degree promotion of dangerous drugs and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested a 26-year-old man yesterday following an incident on the H-2 Freeway late Tuesday night.

A 30-year-old man told police he was driving on the freeway near Mililani when the car in front of him suddenly braked. The man said he then drove around the car only to have the other driver speed up and point a handgun at him.

The man who reported the incident told police he then followed the other driver as he got off at the Mililani exit. He said the other driver disregarded a traffic signal, made a u-turn, and pointed the gun at him a second time.

The man who reported the incident then called 911 with a description of the car and its driver, police said. Officers were sent to the scene and arrested a suspect for suspicion of two counts of first-degree terroristic threatening.
