The sheriff had begun a campaign to ticket motorists with glaring headlights, the July 27, 1925, Advertiser reported.

1887: The Pacific Commercial Advertiser reports that Robert Wilcox married the daughter of an Italian count the previous month in Turin. King Kalakaua was represented at the wedding by an aide-de-camp and sent a gift to the bride.

1915: Kahuku is the relay point for the first wireless messages exchanged between Japan and the United States. The communication originated in Tokyo and was sent to New York.

1929: Mayor Wilson vetoes a Board of Supervisors resolution to build a golf course in Palolo.

1934: President Roosevelt dedicates Ala Moana Park. The portal was named Roosevelt Gate in his honor. He also visited with children at Shriner's Hospital.

1953: The Korean War ends.

1974: The U.S. House Judiciary Committee recommends that President Nixon be impeached and removed from office. It was the first impeachment recommendation in more than a century.

1996: Two people are killed and more than 100 are injured when a bomb explodes in Centennial Olympic Park in Atlanta during the Olympic Games.

1996: Four workers are hurt when a 40-foot by 120-foot section of concrete girders collapses under the H-3 Freeway while it is under construction.
