Dismissal of 'Dickie' Wong's lawsuit upheld

Advertiser Staff

The Hawai'i Supreme Court yesterday affirmed the dismissal of a "malicious prosecution" lawsuit by former Bishop Estate trustee Richard "Dickie" Wong against former Gov. Ben Cayetano and former Attorney General Margery Bronster.

It ends Wong's attempts to recover money damages over three criminal theft and perjury indictments filed in 1999 and 2001 that were later dismissed.

Joining Wong in the lawsuit were his daughter Kathleen Wong and his ex-wife Mari Stone. The theft case was based on a 1995 sale of Bishop Estate land under a Hawai'i Kai condominium. Cayetano was the governor when the charges were filed. In 2003, Circuit Judge Gary Chang dismissed the lawsuit.
