Advertiser Staff

A 29-year-old Wahiawa man was arrested yesterday morning after he allegedly beat his mother with a walking stick for refusing to give him drugs.

The mother was treated and released at Wahiawa General Hospital for multiple contusions to both arms, her legs and upper torso as well as a broken left arm, police said.

The mother, 44, told police she awoke about 7:10 a.m. to the sound of her son pounding on her bedroom door.

She told police she had wedged a walking stick against the door for added security, but her son kicked the door in and demanded drugs.

She told police that when she told him she didn't have any drugs, the son began to beat her with the walking stick. The woman said she finally managed to run to the next door apartment and call police, who arrived and arrested the son on suspicion of second-degree assault.

The walking stick recovered by police was about 4 feet long and 2 inches in diameter.

Police said the two purses were found on the side of the road not far from the beach. Only cash appeared to be missing, police said.

A short time later, three suspects and the getaway car were located.

Because the money taken from the purses totaled more than $300, police arrested the trio on suspicion of second-degree theft.
