In 1923, the Board of Supervisors voted to extend Bethel Street just to Pauahi, even though, as the July 28 Advertiser pointed out, popular sentiment favored extension to Beretania.

1888: Samuel Wilder, president of the Legislature, former sugar planter and owner of the Wilder Steamship Co., dies at the age of 57. He was also briefly minister of the Interior for King Kalakaua.

1905: The U.S. government sues Bishop Estate and its trustees to condemn 12 acres of land at Pearl Harbor. The land was part of the site selected by the Navy department for the proposed Pearl Harbor naval station. Bishop Estate said it would contest the suit because of the government's valuation of the land, which was set at $1,200. The site was known as Queen Emma Point because Queen Emma once had a residence there.

1934: President Roosevelt leaves Hawai'i aboard the USS Houston. Before leaving, he planted a tree at 'Iolani Palace.

1958: The territory agrees to pay $4.95 million for 67 acres of Damon Tract for jet-age airport expansion.
