1935: Six-year-old movie star Shirley Temple arrives on the Mariposa for an 18-day stay. Some 10,000 people lined the dock to see her arrive.

2004: Evan Dobelle and the University of Hawai'i Board of Regents agree to a settlement that rescinds the "for cause" firing of Dobelle as UH president, finds no wrongdoing by either Dobelle or the regents and gives Dobelle a settlement package worth $3.4 million. In exchange, Dobelle resigned from the presidency, effective Aug. 14.
