Advertiser Staff

An ambulance was hit while trying to crossing a busy intersection in downtown Honolulu this afternoon, flipping the rig on its side and leaving three paramedics aboard with scrapes and bruises.

The paramedics, a 47-year-old man, 28-year-old woman and 29-year-old woman, were taken to the Straub Clinic & Hospital for observation. The driver of the other vehicle refused treatment at the scene.

The accident happened about 1:30 p.m. at the intersection of Young Street and Kalakaua Avenue. Jason Kaneshiro, an Emergency Medical Services supervisor, said the ambulance was responding to a call in Manoa.

There were no patients on board.
