Police Beat: Dad arrested in surf rage incident

Advertiser Staff

A 39-year-old Salt Lake man surrendered to police yesterday after detectives linked him to an alleged September 2005 assault at a surf break off of the Waikiki beach area.

At 6:35 a.m. on Sept. 15, a 43-year-old Honolulu man was surfing off of Waikiki when his leash got tangled with another surfer's.

That surfer turned out to be the son of the 39-year-old, who reportedly swam over to the 43-year-old and began punching him in the face. The 43-year-old suffered serious injuries, police said.

After an eight-month investigation, the 39-year-old turned himself in yesterday and was arrested on suspicion of first-degree assault.

Man arrested in alleged car theft

A 25-year-old Honolulu man was arrested yesterday after he allegedly broke into a 56-year-old woman's car and took it for a spin.

At 10:10 a.m. yesterday, at Maunakea and North Hotel streets, patrol officers located a car that had been reported stolen by the woman, police said.

Officers found the man sitting in the car and noticed the ignition had been punched.

The man was arrested on suspicion of breaking into and stealing a car.

Brother arrested after clash with sister

An alleged argument between siblings in Kalihi ended with an arrest yesterday, police said.

At about 3:20 p.m. a 49-year-old woman and her 52-year-old brother argued in their Kalihi home. During the argument the woman walked out of the house, got into her van and attempted to drive away. The man then picked up a large pipe and began breaking the van's windows, sending flying shards of glass all over his sister, police said.

The woman was treated for minor injuries.

Responding patrol officers arrested the man on suspicion of first-degree criminal property damage and abuse of a family member.
