A drawing titled "How I Looked as a Lamb in The Nutcracker Ballet" by 6-year-old Julia Taylor, a second-grade student at Noelani Elementary, has been published in the May 2006 issue of Highlights for Children. The national magazine's readers are people ages 2 to 12 from around the world.

RULES FOR HAVING FUN IN THE WATER

Even good swimmers need buddies. Make sure your child knows never to swim alone.

A lifeguard (or another adult who knows about water rescue) needs to be watching children whenever they are in or near the water.

Make sure your child knows never to dive into water except when permitted by an adult who knows the depth of the water and who has checked for underwater obstructions.

Never let your child swim in canals or any fast-moving water.

Ocean swimming should happen only when a ifeguard is on duty.

Younger children should be closely supervised while in the water. Use "touch supervision," keeping no more than an arm's length away.
