San Diego junior second baseman Keoni Ruth, a 2003 graduate of Kamehameha, was picked in the 17th round by the Chicago Cubs Tuesday in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Ruth was drafted out of Kamehameha by the Kansas City Royals also in the 17th round in 2003.

Also Tuesday, University of Hawaii recruit Matt Jaimes, of Chino High in California, was picked in the 12th round by the Texas Rangers.

He was listed as a third baseman. He was invited to play on the USA Baseball Junior National team. He signed with UH in November.
