University of Hawai'i setter Brian Beckwith and UC Irvine libero Brent Asuka, a 2005 Iolani school graduate, have been named to the Spike/Volleyball Magazine's 2006 All-America first team.

"That's cool," said Beckwith, a resident of Pacific Palisades, Calif. "I'm glad they recognized my hard work. A lot of it came from my team."

UH coach Mike Wilton said: "Brian had a nice year. The team had a nice year, more importantly."

Beckwith was second nationally in assists with 13.52 per game. More significantly, he helped the Warriors lead the nation in hitting (.342).

Asuka was third nationally with 3.03 digs per game.

UH opposite attacker Lauri Hakala and libero Alfee Reft were named to the second team.

UH middle blocker Dio Dante and outside hitter Matt Carere were selected to the third team.

Beckwith, Hakala and Dante will be seniors next year. Reft and Carere completed their NCAA eligibility.
