Hawai'i's Kimberly Kim, who now resides in Temecula, Calif., was one of 17 players to qualify Monday in a sectional in West Bloomfield, Mich., for the 2006 U.S. Women's Open.
The 14-year-old Kim tied for seventh with a 36-hole score of 150, three strokes back of the medalists, who finished in a three-way tie.
Hawai'i's sectional is Tuesday at the Ko Olina Golf Club with four golfers— Stephanie Kono, Lori Planos, Dawn Kaneshiro and and Miki Ueoka — playing for one spot. Starting time for the 36-hole qualifier is 6:32 a.m.
Michelle Wie received a special exemption from the USGA for the 61st U.S. Women's Open championship, June 29 to July 2, at the Newport Country Club in Newport, R.I.
