HAVRE DE GRACE, Md.—A birdie on the final hole left Michelle Wie a shot out of first going into tomorrow's final round of the McDonald's LPGA Championship, the year's second major. Wie fired a 1-under-par 71 in the third round, which ended just before dark at Bulle Rock Golf Course.

Pat Hurst (73) and Japanese rookie Ai Miyazato (69) share the lead at 7-under 209. Wie shares third with Shi Hyun Ahn and Mi Hyun Kim, her playing partners today. All three golfers shot 71.

Wie, who will be a senior at Punahou in the fall, will play with Ahn in tomorrow's final round, teeing off at 8:32 a.m. HST. The Golf Channel announced that it would extend its final-round coverage, which now begins at 8:30 a.m. HST.

Hurst held the lead after the second round was completed this morning. A series of thunderstorms delayed play for more than 5 hours Friday and 70 players had to return to complete their round. Wie, 16, finished before the storm with a 68, one of just 24 sub-par scores.

She didn't have a par until the sixth hole this afternoon, birdieing the first and fourth from inside 15 feet and bogeying the other three holes. She birdied the ninth with a 30-footer and got to 6-under with a three-foot birdie putt at the 596-yard, par-5 11th. Wie's second shot stopped 20 yards short of the green.

She three-putted the 17th, missing a three-footer that she called just a bad putt. She got it back on the final hole, sinking a 12-footer for birdie.

"It was a pretty frustrating day out there," Wie said. "I felt I played very well, but I didn't. I kind of made a couple stupid mistakes out there. By my game feels very solid right now. I'm very confident about my game and tomorrow. I want to just shoot a really good score and see what happens."

Wie went into the year's first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, three shots out of the lead and finished a shot out of the playoff won by Karrie Webb. Wie finished second here a year ago.

The cut came at 2-over 146 after the second round, with 76 players staying on for the final two rounds. Former Rainbow Wahine Cindy Rarick missed the cut, finishing a round of 79 yesterday for a 155 total.
