GOING VEGAS
New Maxim hotel-casino for Las Vegas

By Anthony Curtis

After a 100th-issue stunt, in which a mock magazine cover visible from the air was built in the Nevada desert, Maxim magazine plans to affix its name to a new hotel-casino. The new resort, slated for the northern end of the Strip on the site of the defunct Westward Ho, will feature restaurants manned by celebrity chefs, high-end retailers, and a luxury spa. The centerpiece will be the Maxim Lounge nightclub — a collaboration with nightlife impresario Rande Gerber. The project is unrelated to the old Maxim casino, which was renovated and reopened in 2003 as the Westin Casuarina.

Big Buffet Discount: Sunset Station is offering a $4 discount on its dinner buffet for Players Club card holders. This makes the $14.99 dinner one of the best buffet values in town at $10.99.

Q. I heard there's a tic-tac-toe-playing chicken at Fitzgeralds. What's the story?

A. Fitzgeralds has brought back the chicken, a promotion that has gone around the casinos off and on for many years. Players Club members get to play the chicken for a chance to win up to $500. The trained chickens play first, and are able to follow the strategy that makes it almost impossible for them to lose.
