South shore surf should reach 10 feet this afternoon

The first big surf of the summer is rolling in along the south shore and it's expected to hang around into the weekend.
Wave faces of 4 to 7 feet are expected this morning, building to 6 to 10 feet by this afternoon.
Elsewhere, the surf is expected to reach 2 to 4 feet along east-facing shores; 3 to five 5 feet this morning along west-facing shores this morning, building to 4 to 7 feet this afternoon; and about 3 feet along north-facing shores today.
The new south swell, generated by a storm east of New Zealand, is expected to produce waves above the high surf advisory level of 8 feet for the south shore throughout most of the day. The surf will decrease slowly, probably dipping below the advisory level by late tomorrow, but is expected to rise again past the advisory level early Saturday.
