Mamaroneck, N.Y. — Honolulu's Tadd Fujikawa will become the youngest competitor in U.S. Open history when he tees off today in the first round at Winged Foot Golf Club, according to the usopen.com Web site.
Fujikawa, born in Honolulu on Jan. 8, 1991, will be 15 years, 6 months, and 7 days old. USGA records had previously listed Tyrell Garth Jr. as the youngest player in championship history. It was believed he was 14 years old when he competed in the 1941 U.S. Open at Colonial Country Club in Fort Worth, Texas.
However, it was recently confirmed that Garth was born on June 9, 1925, meaning he was 15 years, 11 months and 27 days old when the 1941 Open commenced on June 5.
