Advertiser Staff and News Services

Two Hawai'i golfers missed the cut Friday at the U.S. Open at Winged Foot Golf Club Mamaroneck, New York.

Tadd Fujikawa, at 15, the youngest ever to play in the U.S. Open, started the day at 11-over 81. He shot a 7-over 77 Friday to finish 158.

Former Kaneohe resident Dean Wilson shot a 5-over 75 Friday and finished with a 151.

The cut was at 9-over 149.

Tiger Woods also missed his first cut in a major tournament when he shot another 6-over 76 to finish 12-over par.

"I wasn't ready to play golf," Woods, the world's top- ranked player, said Friday after finishing with two bogeys.

The U.S. Open winner qualifies for the Grand Slam of Golf on Kaua'i in November. The event invites the winners of the four majors — The Masters (Phil Mickelson), U.S. Open, British Open in July and the PGA Championships in August.

Woods is the defending champion and a six-time winner of the event.

Woods said his next tournament appearance probably would be at the Western Open in Chicago July 6-9.
